  14. EVERYONE should be compiling their own kernel.  The generic kernel is
  15. far from optimal for anyone, it is only meant to be used as an
  16. installation tool.  How many people have a dozen different brands of
  17. SCSI controller and two different brands of ethernet adaptors in their
  18. machines? Nobody. Everyone should be building their own kernel with
  19. only the features they need. You'll get better performance that way
  20. (kernel will be smaller, so more memory free, so less swapping/paging).

  22. The people who designed the BSD config scheme went to a lot of trouble
  23. to make it easy for everyone to build their own kernel. Take advantage
  24. of it!
